Experience

Academic Experience - Newcastle University

PHD RESEARCH

Sept 2023 - Present | Geospatial Systems CDT

Research focused on using deep learning for real-time prediction of spatio-temporal dynamics in the built environment. Already published in the 32nd GISRUK Conference 2024 proceedings. Currently developing automated pipelines and dashboards for assessing data quality and model performance in real-time using python and SQL.

TEACHING / DEMONSTRATOR ROLE

Sept 2023 - Present | School of Engineering & School of Computing

Demonstrated and marked coursework for modules in machine learning, deep learning, data management, public policy for infrastructure and climate change at masters level and spatial data engineering, ethics and sustainability, programming porfolio modules at undergraduate level.

RESEARCH ROLE

June 2023 - Sept 2023 | Civil Engineering and Geosciences

Project funded by UKRI - worked in a team of three developing a dashboard for visualising and labelling photos of buildings damaged in earthquakes. Used Python and GCP to build back-end system for pushing unlabelled images to a crowd-sourced platform for labelling and pulling the labelled images into a web-map for analysis.

MRES RESEARCH

Sept 2022 - Sept 2023 | Geospatial Systems CDT

Built a workflow for testing the effects of data-quality of pedestrian data on the predictive capabilities. Promising techniques were identified for predicting data anomalies.

MENG RESEARCH

Sept 2021 - June 2022 | Civil Engineering and Geosciences

Investigated the accessibility of amenities in Newcastle upon Tyne using open-source data and geospatial analysis techniques in Python.

Professional Experience

DATA SCIENTIST

June 2022 - Sept 2022 | Verco Global

Automated data processes and integrated siloed data sources to create a single source of truth for the company. Used PowerQuery and PowerBI to process and visualise data. Developed statistical models to measure the impact of climate on energy consumption.

Soft Skills

Communication

Presented my research at workshops and conferences. Delivered guest lecture to BEng students.

Leadership

Led multi-disciplinary teams of up to 20 people setting a vision and building an environment of trust and collaboration. Most recently led a team of 12 PhD students split across 2 universities to deliver a publication quality paper in a single month.

Organisation

Regularly organise events for the CDT and the research group. Most recently our annual assembly, contacting speakers, putting together a timetable and brochure, and consulting with the CDT manager to organise socials, and leading a feedback session on the proposed schedule.

Project Management

Knowledge of Agile methodologies, recently conducting an introductory session on the principles of scrum demonstrating how kanban boards work to a group of PhD students in a one month sprint project. Capable in most project management tasks including documenting project scope, risk assessments, skills assessments, data management plans and facilitating weekly sprint updates.
